
Saudi-Iraqi Technical Committee for Maritime Transport and Ports Discusses Ways to Enhance Cooperation between the Two Countries
The third session of the Saudi-Iraqi Technical Committee for Maritime Transport and Ports was held in Jeddah. The five-day session, held from May 4 to 8, 2025, included the participation of several members from both the Iraqi and Saudi sides.
The technical committee discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Iraq in the fields of maritime transport and ports, and to expand opportunities in transportation and logistics services. The session also reviewed several topics of mutual interest in the sector.
During the session, the Iraqi delegation toured the facilities of Jeddah Islamic Port, where they were briefed on the port’s control and inspection systems. They also visited "Ebhar," the platform specialized in providing comprehensive services for yacht tourism, which aims to enhance the beneficiary experience by streamlining procedures for entry, sailing, and departure from the Kingdom’s territorial waters.
The Iraqi delegation also met with the administration of the College of Maritime Studies at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, where they discussed potential areas of academic cooperation.
On the sidelines of the session, the Iraqi delegation signed a cooperation agreement with the Saudi side that includes the mutual recognition of seafarers’ certificates between the two countries.
