FAO Praises Saudi Arabia’s Rehabilitation of One Million Hectares of Land
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) praised Saudi Arabia's announcement of rehabilitating one million hectares of land, within the targets of the Saudi Green Initiative, commending its efforts in combating land degradation and restoring ecosystems, and affirming its readiness to continue supporting these efforts.
Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative of FAO for the Near East and North Africa Dr. AbdulHakim Elwaer noted that this achievement reflects a practical commitment to transforming national visions into tangible, measurable, and verifiable results.
He added that the Kingdom continues its efforts within an integrated national track, which began with the launch of the Global Land Initiative, which aims to reduce land degradation, during its presidency of the G20 Summit in 2020. This track was further enhanced through the launch of the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative, positioning the Kingdom’s efforts as an effective model in addressing land degradation challenges, restoring ecosystems, and preserving natural resources and their sustainability.
