Najran's Early Dates Boost Markets and Economy
Date palm farming is vital to Najran Region’s economy. The first dates of the season are especially important, as their quality and taste immediately boost local markets, helping farmers and traders with early sales and covering costs.
Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture branch in Najran Engineer Murih Al-Shahrani stated that the region has over 526,000 date palms. These palms produce more than 40,000 tons of dates annually from 2,696 hectares. He noted that Najran’s mild climate and rich soil are crucial for the high quality and quantity of its crops, especially dates.
Al-Shahrani also highlighted that Najran’s farmers receive financial and logistical support from the ministry. This support helps maintain product quality and market effectiveness, aligning with the region’s strengths and Vision 2030. Farmer Dalamah Al-Haidar confirmed that good local conditions and government support have led to high yields and strong profits for varieties such as Khalas and Majdool.
The local market is already buzzing with this year’s date harvest. According to agricultural marketer Mohammed Abdullah, early dates are arriving, and their prices vary depending on type, supply, and demand.
