DRIFT25 Sees Jeddah Hosting the International Showjumping Tour

Under the esteemed patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Deputy Governor of the Makkah Region and Chairman of the National Evaluation Committee for Jeddah Province, the Kingdom is set to host the international “DRIFT25” Showjumping Tour in Jeddah. The event, organized under the supervision of the Saudi Arabian Equestrian Federation, will take place as part of Jeddah’s vibrant events calendar called Jeddah Season. It will feature top equestrian talents from Saudi Arabia and around the world over a thrilling three-week schedule, running from January 15 to February 1, 2025, with daily competitions.

The championship boasts an impressive prize pool exceeding one million Saudi Riyals, awarded across various age categories. The event will feature 25 internationally certified judges, renowned veterinarians, and special participation by world-class course designer Mario Breccia, classified under the three-star category.

Renowned equestrian Arwa Mutabagani, Chairwoman of the Organizing Committee and Founder of Trio Sporting Club, emphasized that the championship blends the historic art of equestrian sports with entertainment. She extended her gratitude to the National Evaluation Committee and both SAEF & FEI, for their efforts and support in ensuring the event’s success. She also appreciated the logistics partner, Saudia Cargo, for their professional equestrian transportation services, and acknowledged the contributions of Taqa (a Zahid Group company) and Dr. Hamed Mutabagani Hospitals, in organizing and hosting the competition. Mutabagani highlighted the importance of the championship in fostering knowledge exchange among riders, providing training opportunities, and earning qualifying points for future global competitions.

Now in its second year, the championship features 54 rounds, distributed over six rounds each weekend from Thursday to Saturday for three weeks. Specific challenges will be tailored to different skill levels, including amateurs, juniors, beginners, youth, advanced, and professionals. Competitors from over 15 countries, including Italy, the Czech Republic, and Canada, will join top Saudi riders in this exciting event. The championship expects to host more than 150 male and female riders, including 25 world champions and over 500 horses.

Designed to reflect Saudi Arabia’s rich heritage and modern renaissance, the championship incorporates progressive rounds that culminate in a grand finale crowning the winners.

In addition to equestrian sports, the event offers a family-friendly atmosphere with a variety of recreational activities for children and families. These include workshops on equestrian arts, photography, and educational programs. The opening ceremony promises surprises, entertainment, and artistic performances for all ages. The event will conclude with a celebration honoring the 35th anniversary of Trio Sporting Club, marking its legacy in promoting equestrian sports in the Kingdom.

It is noteworthy that Arwa Mutabagani founded Trio Sporting Club in 1990 and became the first woman to secure membership in a sports federation in Saudi Arabia. Her appointment by the General Presidency of Youth Welfare as a member of the Saudi Equestrian Federation highlights her trailblazing achievements. Mutabagani has cultivated a promising generation of equestrian champions, including her daughter, Dalma Malhas—the first Saudi female equestrian to compete in the Olympics. Through her vision, the club has hosted international experts, raised the bar for equestrian training, and adopted world-class standards in its facilities and programs.
