CST Launches Spectrum Outlook for Commercial, Innovative Use 2025-2027
The Communications, Space & Technology Commission (CST) announced the launch of its Spectrum Outlook for Commercial and Innovative Use 2025-2027.
The strategic step represents an extension of the CST's efforts to enhance the Kingdom's leadership in modern wireless technologies, develop digital infrastructure, and build a prosperous and sustainable digital economy.
The plan focuses on ensuring the effective use of the radio spectrum as a fundamental element to support digital transformation, stimulate economic growth, and enhance the Kingdom's global competitiveness.
The impact of this plan is expected to be felt across various sectors by enabling advanced solutions, as well as enhancing the Kingdom's readiness to host major global events that require intensive spectrum usage. It will support public communication networks by providing the necessary frequencies to ensure service quality and improve coverage levels.
The plan aims to maximize the potential of the radio spectrum by providing flexible and advanced regulatory frameworks that meet the future needs of wireless technologies.
Among the plan’s objectives is to enable Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) and satellite applications, boost spectrum for public networks, and facilitate Fixed Wireless Access (FWA). It will also promote spectrum sharing through the Automatic Frequency Coordination (AFC) systems, which allow the use of modern Wi-Fi networks outside of buildings.
Empowering the industrial and logistics sectors is a primary priority for the outlook through the allocation of spectrum for private networks, internet of things (IoT) applications, and innovative wireless technologies in the transportation sector. The plan will also facilitate spectrum trading and create a conducive environment for research and innovation, particularly in future sixth-generation (6G) networks.
These efforts are anticipated to strengthen the Kingdom's position as a global destination for digital investment and foster effective partnerships between the public and private sectors, achieving a qualitative leap toward a smart and sustainable future.
