UN Human Rights Council Adopts Resolution Supporting Human Rights in Syria

The Syrian Arab Republic today welcomed the unanimous adoption by the United Nations Human Rights Council, for the second consecutive year, of a resolution titled “Supporting Human Rights in the Syrian Arab Republic.”
In a statement, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates expressed the government’s appreciation for the constructive approach and cooperation of the sponsoring states and their efforts in drafting the resolution.
The ministry added that the resolution reflects an evolving approach by the council toward the country. It supports complementarity between the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic and national efforts.
The resolution also recognizes the practical steps taken by the government to enhance human rights. These include decrees related to Kurdish rights, transitional justice committees, parliamentary elections, and cooperation with United Nations mechanisms.
The Syrian foreign ministry reaffirmed Syria’s commitment to its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and to advancing justice and accountability.
