Historic Jeddah's Zawiya 97 Inspires Future Generations of Artisans

The Zawiya 97 events in Historic Jeddah have emerged as a vibrant cultural movement since early July 2025, aligning with the Ministry of Culture's Year of Handicrafts 2025. This initiative showcases handicrafts and heightens heritage visibility.
Zawiya 97 provides an interactive platform for artisans and enthusiasts, hosting over 79 workshops in July, August, and September. Activities included gypsum sculpting, wood decoration, mosaic art, and perfume making, attracting over 450 participants. The program also features recycling initiatives and modern crafts.
Continuing through September, Zawiya 97 will offer workshops on traditional crafts such as leatherwork, pottery, and embroidery. Notable sessions include those on Hijazi architecture and distilling aromatic plants.
This initiative revitalizes traditional craftsmanship while connecting new generations to their cultural significance. Located in artisans' alley near Beit Nassif, Zawiya 97 allows visitors to explore Historic Jeddah's bustling markets, supporting the sustainability of national heritage and bridging the past with the future.
