The Speaker and Leaders of the British Parliament Welcome the Secretary General of the Muslim World League
A First-of-its-Kind Meeting with an Islamic Religious Leader
The Speaker and Leaders of the British Parliament Welcome the Secretary General of the Muslim World League
His Excellency the Secretary General of the Muslim World League and President of the Association of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, met with the Speaker of the British Parliament, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, at his office in London.
The meeting reviewed the foundations of social cohesion in countries characterized by religious and ethnic diversity, foremost among them mutual respect and the enactment of legislation capable of countering threats to national unity. Among the most dangerous of these threats are hate speech, discrimination, and exclusionary practices targeting patriotism—especially when such actions originate from influential institutional entities within these diverse nations.
The meeting also discussed the MWL’s initiative hosted at the United Nations headquarters in New York, titled “Building Bridges of Understanding and Cooperation Between East and West,” which was attended by UN leaders, government officials, parliamentarians, religious leaders, international organizations, and global think tanks.
Sheikh Al-Issa emphasized that British Muslims, in general, possess a high level of religious and national awareness. He noted that deviant voices, whenever they arise, are similar to their counterparts elsewhere in the world; they represent only themselves and do not reflect the values of Islam, which shape the true religious conduct of British Muslims. He affirmed their deep loyalty to their country and King, their respect for its laws and systems, and their appreciation for the diversity that distinguishes the United Kingdom.
Following the meeting, the Speaker of the British Parliament accompanied His Excellency the Secretary General on a tour of the Parliament’s halls in honor of his visit.
In the same context, the British Parliament hosted His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Al-Issa, at its headquarters in London for a side meeting initiated by several members of Parliament and attended by the Speaker.
The meeting addressed ways to strengthen integration and harmony among the components of British society and to combat extremism and hatred. It also touched on the efforts exerted by the Muslim World League to build bridges between civilizations and peoples.
