Foundation Stone Laid for Power Plant Projects in Hadhramaut
The foundation stone was laid in Al-Mukalla for power plant projects with a total capacity of 100 megawatts to serve the Hadhramaut coast, aimed at increasing energy production efficiency, enhancing operational reliability, and improving the continuity and performance of essential services in the governorate.
The ceremony was held under the patronage of Presidential Leadership Council Member and Hadhramaut Governor Salem Ahmed Al-Khanbashi, through a tripartite partnership between the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), the Yemeni Ministry of Electricity and Energy, and Gulf Power International Company under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) agreement.
The projects also include the construction of a similar 100-megawatt power plant in the Hadhramaut Valley and Desert. They are being implemented in accordance with a memorandum of understanding between SDRPY, the Yemeni Ministry of Electricity and Energy, and Gulf Power International Company. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by SDRPY Office Director in Hadhramaut Eng. Abdullah Basulaiman; Director of the program's Transportation Portfolio Eng. Nasser Al-Shehri; Deputy Governor of Hadhramaut Hassan Salem Al-Jilani; and Assistant Deputy Governor for the Valley and Desert Districts Engineer Hisham Al-Saidi.
The power plant construction projects aim to contribute to improving infrastructure, serving local communities, and enhancing the quality of services provided to the Yemeni people.
The Hadhramaut governor and member of the Presidential Leadership Council expressed his gratitude and appreciation, on his own behalf and on behalf of the people of Hadhramaut, to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for their continued support to various sectors through SDRPY. He emphasized that these projects will bring about a qualitative leap, positively impacting the service and development landscape after a prolonged period of hardship in the governorate.
SDRPY’s projects and initiatives have contributed to increasing electricity production capacity in several Yemeni governorates and strengthening the Yemeni government’s ability to provide essential services, including education and healthcare. They have also promoted the use of renewable energy across various initiatives.
SDRPY has implemented several projects to increase electricity generation capacity and improve the reliability of the electrical grid in Yemeni governorates. These projects include the construction of power plants, the provision of modern generators and related equipment, and the upgrading of existing generators. They have contributed to increasing electricity production capacity and improving the level of services provided to residents in beneficiary areas.
