OIC Ministers of Water Conference Advocates for Collaboration in Water Management
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) emphasized the need for comprehensive solutions to enhance member states' water desalination capacities, including more efficient technologies, improved groundwater management, and the use of renewable resources.
This statement was made during the Fifth Islamic Conference of Ministers Responsible for Water in OIC Member States, which concluded yesterday in Jeddah under the theme "From Vision to Impact." Ministers, delegates, and heads of relevant OIC institutions discussed strategies to enhance cooperation and water security in the Islamic world.
The conference reaffirmed the importance of strengthening mechanisms within the OIC Water Vision to tackle water scarcity. This includes developing desalination capabilities, employing modern technologies, and facilitating the exchange of knowledge and expertise.
Participants supported the joint vision of collaborating for a water-secure future by advocating for technology transfer, technical expertise exchange, and human capacity building, with a focus on integrating AI into innovative water management solutions.
The conference also called for enhanced transboundary cooperation among nations sharing water resources and adopting integrated national strategies to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6 on water and sanitation. The general secretariat was tasked with organizing workshops and training programs to build capacities and facilitate coordination among member states.
