Riyadh Al-Khabra's Iconic Sculptures Blend Art, Heritage, and Urban Identity

Artworks and aesthetic sculptures are spread across the squares and streets of Riyadh Al-Khabra Governorate, designed over time to create a distinctive visual landscape for the governorate.

 The roads themselves have become open-air spaces for art, while some sculptures have become part of the governorate’s collective memory and landmarks, captured in photographs and stories by residents and visitors.

 Riyadh Al-Khabra Governorate has a long-standing experience in incorporating art into public spaces. Its sculptures have not merely served as decorative elements in squares but have become visual landmarks that help visitors find their way and give the streets a distinctive character.

 One of the most prominent works in the governorate’s collective memory is the “Zabeel” sculpture, which symbolizes dates and palm trees and is located on King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Road.

 Created about 20 years ago, the sculpture stands more than 15 meters tall, bearing witness to the presence of art in Riyadh Al-Khabra’s urban landscape.

 This presence is not a recent development, as the lens of the Saudi Press Agency has documented a number of sculptures across the governorate, including works bearing artists’ names and others inspired by natural life and national symbols, which have, over time, become part of the governorate’s visual identity.

 The story behind some of these works shows how an aesthetic sculpture can transcend its visual function to convey a deeper message or idea. The “Al-Tahunah” (Mill) sculpture, designed more than 20 years ago, uses symbolic artistic language to represent the generosity and hospitality of the governorate’s residents.
