Taibah University Signs Contract for ‘Ali Sharbini Chair for Innovation Technologies to Serve Persons with Disabilities’

Taibah University signed today the contract establishing the “Ali Sharbini Chair for Innovation Technologies to Serve Persons with Disabilities,” marking the first research chair of its kind based on a patented invention aimed at transferring technology from scientific research into practical application and community service. The initiative focuses on developing advanced technological solutions to empower individuals with hearing and visual impairments.
The university noted that the chair is centered on a wireless tactile communication device that converts audio content into perceptible vibration patterns, enabling users to perceive sounds through touch. The innovation aims to empower the deaf and hard of hearing, among others, to interact sensorially with educational content, particularly the learning and reception of the Holy Quran through an innovative tactile approach that enhances comprehension and engagement with recitation and Tajweed.
It noted that the project, implemented by a specialized academic research team, responds to the growing need for more advanced assistive technologies to serve individuals with hearing and visual impairments in the Kingdom, reflecting the significant anticipated societal impact of the innovation.
The project seeks to develop the product for use in educational environments and rehabilitation centers, with plans to utilize it at the Prophet's Mosque Library and relevant entities involved in Quran education and support services for persons with disabilities.
The chair combines scientific research, charitable work, and community development, aligning with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to empower persons with disabilities and enhance the quality of life. It is also expected to support Quran education through innovative sensory technologies serving communities locally and globally.
