Wadi Qanat Emerges as Haven for Birds in Madinah

The rich environmental diversity of the valleys of Madinah, particularly Wadi Qanat, provides an ideal habitat for migratory and resident birds, supporting their survival and breeding with abundant vegetation, water sources, and varied terrain, while blending harmoniously with nearby residential neighborhoods and major roads.
Parts of Wadi Qanat have been rehabilitated to serve as recreational spaces for residents and visitors, as well as a natural tourist destination. Al Madinah Region Development Authority has redesigned several areas along the valley banks, planted desert trees historically native to the valley, and developed pedestrian walkways, seating areas, and service facilities, all while preserving the valley’s natural character and promoting environmental sustainability.
Visitors can observe bird species of different sizes and colors that rely on the valley’s rich ecosystem for living and breeding. In addition, migratory birds use the valley, with its lush vegetation and flowing streams, as an important stopover during their seasonal migrations.
