Saudi National Day: Military Parade in Diriyah Honors Heritage, Unity, and National Pride
In a scene embodying the values of unity and national pride that characterized the journey of unifying the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, Diriyah yesterday hosted a military parade as part of the Saudi National Day celebrations organized by the Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior.
The parade proceeded toward Wadi Hanifah via Imam Abdulaziz bin Saud Road, with soldiers on horseback leading the procession in orderly ranks along a single route. The scene brought together the symbolism of horsemanship and the presence of security personnel, evoking the spirit of solidarity.
Along its route, the parade evoked a number of symbols associated with Diriyah’s history. The road bears the name of Imam Abdulaziz bin Saud, one of the imams of the First Saudi State, while the route extended to Wadi Hanifah, which is closely associated with Diriyah’s origins, settlement, and prosperity. In this way, the names and landmarks embedded in the memory of the place converged along the route with the presence of security personnel and horsemen on a day dedicated to celebrating the nation.
The festivities also featured a cycling parade in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, adding another dimension of national participation to the celebration program.
Diriyah lends the occasion a distinctive dimension: the land that witnessed the beginnings of state-building today hosts a national parade that brings together the features of the past and the image of the present, recalling scenes associated with horsemanship and determination.
The military parade formed part of the DGDA's program of National Day celebrations, alongside a number of events held in the historic At-Turaif District and around Diriyah. Together, these activities bring history, place, and national participation into one celebration, drawing from Diriyah images from the nation’s collective memory and reflecting the solidarity of its people.
