Muslim World League Organizes the First International Qur’an Competition for the Blind in the Republic of Indonesia
In the presence of His Excellency the Secretary General of the Muslim World League and President of the Association of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa; His Excellency the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mr. Ahmad Muzani; and His Excellency the Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs, Dr. Nasruddin Umar, the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, hosted the First Global “Insight” Qur’an Memorization Competition for the Blind, organized by the Muslim World League for blind participants from various countries around the world.
The competition aims to ignite a spirit of healthy competition among blind Qur’an memorizers, support and honor them, care for their needs, highlight their role in society, and enhance their abilities in perfecting Qur’an memorization and recitation. It also seeks to strengthen their confidence in their abilities and affirm their participation alongside others in Qur’anic competitions.
The competition consisted of five categories; the first is memorization of the entire Qur’an along with memorization of Al-Jazariyyah (poem on tajwīd). The second is memorization of the entire Qur’an (boys’ category). The third is memorization of the entire Qur’an (girls’ category). The fourth is memorization of 20 juz’ of the Qur’an. The fifth is memorization of 10 juz’ of the Qur’an.
As part of the competition, the MWL honored outstanding blind Qur’an memorizers from various age groups who had mastered memorization and excelled in recitations, tajwīd, and classical texts.
During the event, 300 electronic Braille Mushafs were distributed, an innovative technology dedicated to serving the blind around the world.
