King Salman Reserve Champions Biodiversity and Environmental Sustainability
King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve is home to over 550 species of flora, including trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants, such as acacia, boxthorn, haloxylon persicum, tamarix, and wormwood.
The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority is intensifying efforts to protect biodiversity and restore natural habitats by implementing projects focused on soil conservation and providing essential shelter and food for various organisms. These initiatives aim to expand green spaces and enhance plant diversity in collaboration with government entities and local community associations.
Improving vegetation cover is fundamental to boosting ecosystem health and sustainability. These environmental gains have led to increased sightings of endangered species, stability of reintroduced wildlife, a significant rise in bird populations, and the return of previously absent wildlife species.
The authority prioritizes biodiversity protection as part of a comprehensive strategy to establish the reserve as a global model for sustainable management, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030's goals of enhancing environmental sustainability and combating desertification.
